“I love to do the same thing over and over again”. (Andy Warhol).
Anfang der 1980er Jahre entdeckte Andy Warhol das Dollarzeichen als Motiv für sein Werk. Die typographische Vorlage entnahm er Werbeanzeigen und variierte sie in allen Medien in unterschiedlichen Formen und Farben. Neben “Marilyn” und den “Campbell Soup”-Dosen aus den 1960er Jahren hatte er mit dem Dollarzeichen in seinem Spätwerk noch einmal zu einer allgegenwärtigen amerikanischen Ikone gefunden. Über den Verweis auf den trivialen Alltagsgebrauch hinaus steht das Zeichen als Symbol für den Kapitalismus sowie den weltweiten Einfluss und die Bedeutung des amerikanischen Wirtschaftssystems. – Minimal Handhabungsspuren, sonst in ausgezeichnetem Zustand.
