Ramboux war 1816 nach Rom gekommen, wo er sich dem Kreis der dort ansässigen Nazarener anschloss. Die vorliegenden Skizzenblätter sind wohl im Zusammenhang mit seinen Aquarellkopien nach Kunstwerken vergangener Epochen entstanden. – Je alt auf Velin aufgezogen, etwas fleckig und mit Gebrauchspuren.
