Description
Diefenbach, überzeugter Pazifist, Veganer und Pionier der Freikörperkultur, hatte sich nach dem Bankrott seiner 1897 in Wien gegründeten Kommune auf die Insel Capri zurückgezogen, wo er im Einklang mit der Natur lebte und arbeitete. Die dort entstandenen Werke sind Zeugnisse eines kraftvollen und farbstarken Symbolismus, der seine Vorbilder in den Werken Arnold Böcklins und Franz von Stucks gefunden hatte.
