In erdigen Braun- und Grüntönen festgehaltenes Schäferidyll von ruhiger und harmonischer Grundstimmung. Gekonnt lenkt Verboeckhoven den Blick über die Rücken der grasenden Tiere, bis zu den sanften Weiten der spätsommerlichen Landschaft im Hintergrund und spannt einzig den von links aufziehenden Wolkenhimmel als Kontrast über das malerische Ganze. – Die Tafel verso parkettiert und mit einer neu verleimten, horizontalen Brettfuge.
