Description
Die vorliegende Darstellung gibt eine Szene aus dem Aufstand der Kreter gegen die türkischen Besatzer wieder, der 1821 wieder aufgeflammt war. Der Name Candia für das heutige Iraklio stammte noch aus der Zeit der venezianischen Herrschaft, auch damals hatte sich die Bevölkerung bereits gegen die Regierung erhoben. Verso mit der Darstellung eines Gewehrs von gleicher Hand. – Oberfläche minimal angeschmutzt, untere Ecken jeweils mit kleinem Knick, sonst schön.
