Wohl als Allegorie Asiens entstandene Darstellung, die in ihrer farbstarken Monumentalität ganz dem kulturellen Geiste der Wiener “Ringstraßenzeit” entpricht. Charlemont hatte sich in den letzten Jahrzehnten seines Schaffens in Wien niedergelassen, wo die 1857 von Kaiser Franz Joseph errichtete Ringstraße, zum symbolischen Schauplatz eines aufstrebenden Großbürgertums geworden war, das rund um den Prachtboulevard eine blühenden Kunst- und Kulturszene um sich versammelte. – Die Leinwand doubliert; mit mehreren Retuschen im Bereich der Natur und der Figur (u.a. Hals und Kleid).
