Description
1655 stiftete Arnold Lyskirchen das gleichnamige Gemälde der Kölner Kirche St. Gereon; erworben hatte er es bereits 1640. Zeigt das im 2. Weltkrieg zerstörte Gemälde ebenso wie eine vorbereitende Ölstudie (Brüssel, Musées Royaux des Beaux-Arts) den Heiligen kurz vor seiner Enthauptung stärker seitlich, so ist er in dieser ersten Skizze noch frontal zum Betrachter gewendet.
