Thomas Merton, der nicht nur als christlicher Mystiker, sondern auch durch seine Stellungnahme zu politischen Themen großen Einfluss hatte, inspirierte Thursz zu einer Reihe von Werken. “Zur Monochromie hat er wohl erst um 1980 gefunden. Aber schon in einer Serie von Ölmalereien um 1972, zum Teil Rothko und Thomas Merton gewidmet, noch die für ihn damals typische vertikale Linie aufweisend, lässt sich die Hinwendung zur Monochromie erahnen.” (Nino Weinstock, “Radical Painting und Präsenz der Farbe in den achtziger Jahren”, Düsseldorf, 2001, S. 80). – In schönem Originalzustand.
