Description
Dramatisch zugespitzter Höhepunkt der berühmten Szene: Mephisto lässt den Wein der vier tumben Studenten in Flammen aufgehen, diese zücken ihre Säbel, Faust distanziert sich vom derben Treiben (vgl. Goethes “Faust”, Vers 2295-2320). Wohl eine von mehreren Gedichtillustrationen Hoffmanns aus dem Jahr 1854 (vgl. Boetticher Bd. I.2, Nr. II/3). – Mit Papiermängeln und porösen Löchlein, teils hinterlegt.
