Idyllische, in feinem Pinsel und leuchtender Farbigkeit charakteristische Darstellung. Wie meist bei Doll wird, wie auch in dieser Arbeit, besonderer Wert auf die Wassermühle und ihre Funktion in der Landschaft gelegt. Die Figur ist dagegen in lockerem Pinsel leicht ausgeführt. Dolls naturnahe Zeichnungen besitzen oft dokumentarischen Wert, wodurch er schon zu seinen Lebzeiten bei Sammlern sehr beliebt war. Von gutem Gesamteindruck und sehr schöner Farbigkeit.
