Um die Mitte der 1960er Jahre ist im Werk des Künstlers das Bestreben einer neuen Disziplinierung ablesbar. Kreutz studiert die Farbtheorien Goethes, Runges und Schopenhauers und setzt sich mit Hölzels Elementarlehre auseinander. Bald darauf entsteht die Werkgruppe der Quadratbilder, der auch das vorliegende Bild mit seiner reizvollen Spannung zwischen serieller Strenge und Verspieltheit angehört. – Mit wenigen, sehr leichten dunklen Farb- bzw. leichten Handhabungsspuren. Von schönem, farbfrischem Gesamteindruck.
