Description
Scharl entwirft ein Porträt von frontaler Strenge und Ernsthaftigkeit, dem die kontrastreichen Muster von Brille, Fliege, Hemd und Morgenmantel auflockernd entgegenwirken. Obwohl Scharl von den Nationalsozialisten als “entartet” eingestuft wurde, ermöglichte Karl Nierendorf ihm noch 1935 eine große Einzelausstellung in seiner Berliner Galerie. Nach 1938 emigrierte Scharl über die Schweiz nach Amerika, wo er bis zu seinem Tod lebte und arbeitete. – Insgesamt mit altersbedingten Gebrauchspuren; verso Klebereste alter Montage, recto etwas durchschlagend und mit Papierausdünnung, sonst gut.
