2 sheets: Mother and Child in a Train Compartment. Pen and brown ink, respectively pencil, on wove. 1928. C. 7.5 : 6.5 cm and ca. 22 : 14 cm. Inscribed and dated by the artist on the reverse.
Description
Blatt 1, die dicht schraffierte Skizze, verso handschriftlich bezeichnet “Auf der Nacht-Fahrt nach Murnau am 2. August 1928. Gezeichnet aus dem Kopf am 3. August 28”. Blatt 2, die kräftige Umrisszeichnung mit Farbangaben, verso handschriftlich bezeichnet “Auf der Fahrt nach Murnau Sommer 1928”. Vorzeichnungen zu dem gleichnamigen Ölgemälde (siehe Karl & Faber, Auktion 207, 30.11.2004, Los 616). Zu einer Zeit, in der sich die Künstlerin sowohl persönlich als auch stilistisch verunsichert fühlte, wählt sie ein Motiv, das Sicherheit und Geborgenheit ausdrückt: die Mutter legt schützend ihre Arme um das Kind, das sich an ihre Schulter anschmiegt. Dieses Bild des Vertrauens und der Zusammengehörigkeit muss die Künstlerin tief beeindruckt haben. – Das dünne Papier des 2. Blattes mit zwei schrägen Knickspuren, untere Blattkante leicht unfrisch, sonst in schönem Zustand.
