Die Grafik bezieht ihre Spannung aus dem Kontrast der beiden Bildhälften. Die rechte Seite, die von der mächtigen Figur Sauls eingenommen wird, ist weitgehend dunkel gehalten, das Gewand nahezu schwarz, das missgünstige Gesicht verschattet. Demgegenüber ist der ganz in seine Musik versunkene Jüngling David in helles Licht getaucht. – Im Passepartoutausschnitt gebräunt. Verso etwas fleckig. Umlaufend mit Klebeband in das Passepartout montiert. Sonst in schönem Zustand.
