Der humorvolle, zugleich jedoch genaue Blick des Künstlers auf seine Umwelt führte zu fein ausgeführten Genreszenen, mit denen Kauffmann schon zu Lebzeiten großen Erfolg hatte. Vorliegende Darstellung wird besonders von dem verliebten Jäger bestimmt, der mit all seinem Charme um die Gunst des Mädchens wirbt. Die Intimität dieses Moments unterstreicht das kleine Format des Werkes.
