In Komposition und Farbgebung reizvolle Arbeit aus der späten Schaffenszeit des Künstlers. Die Tiere werden in breiten Pinselstrichen und durch pastos gesetzte Lichter silhouettenhaft wiedergegeben, wodurch sie sich kontrastreich vom dunklen Hintergrund abheben. Die bei Diem reproduzierte Abbildung zeigt den endgültigen Zustand des Werkes mit dem Schäfer und den Schafen im Hintergrund. Leinwand auf Holz aufgelegt. In sehr gutem Zustand.
Provenienz: Seit ca. 1930 in Münchner Privatbesitz.
