Description
Neben dem Hochgebirge fühlte sich Compton zeitlebens besonders zu Seenlandschaften hingezogen: Seine ersten Naturstudien entstanden im englischen Lake District; bald nach seiner Übersiedlung nach Deutschland zog er nach Feldafing am Starnberger See. Die vorliegende Darstellung belegt Comptons schon durch die Zeitgenossen gerühmte darstellerische Kraft und koloristische Sensibilität. Vor dem in helles Mittagslicht getauchten alpinen Massiv liegt die stille, schimmernde Fläche des Königssees, auf der auch das Boot die Wasserfläche kaum bewegt – eine meditative, zeitlose Ansicht des beliebten Motivs. Mit Craquelébildung; sonst in unrestauriertem Originalzustand.
