Landscape with a waterfall, ancient ruins and three resting people. Pen and brown ink and grey wash over black chalk on laid paper with watermark “serpent with flowers”. C. 15.5 : 19 cm. Framed.
Description
Schwungvolle, flüssige Zeichnung, entstanden wohl um 1653-56 während des Aufenthaltes des Künstlers in Italien. Durch den Kontrast zwischen der in helles Sonnenlicht getauchten rechten und der linken Bildhälfte, in der drei ermattete Wanderer im Schutz der Apsis einer antiken Ruine rasten, beschwört er mit leichter Hand den Eindruck südlicher Mittagshitze herauf. Leicht fleckig, verso mit Montageresten, sonst gut erhalten.
