Aus der Folge: “The Blue Guitar”. Hockney verbrachte den Sommer 1976 auf Fire Island, New York, und las dort die Gedichte von Wallace Stevens. Besonders gut gefiel ihm das lange Gedicht “The man with the blue guitar”, zu dem Stevens von Picassos Gemälde “Der alte Gitarrist” von 1903 inspiriert wurde. Hockney schuf daraufhin eine Folge von Radierungen, die er mit dem Titel “The Blue Guitar, etchings by David Hockney who was inspired by Wallace Stevens who was inspired by Pablo Picasso” als Mappenwerk und in Buchform 1977 veröffentlichte. In diesen Werken ist der Einfluss Picassos klar spürbar. So nahm er für diese Radierung eine Frau aus einem Picasso-Gemälde von 1909 zum Vorbild. Mit kaum merklichem Lichtrand, sonst in sehr gutem Zustand.
