A fine example of Vuillard’s late style depicting the dentist Louis Viau in his surgery amidst his glass cases and instruments.

Interieurs zählen zu den bevorzugten Szenen Vuillards. In dieser späten Darstellung zeigt er den Zahnarzt Louis Viau in seiner Praxis zwischen Vitrinen, dem Behandlungsstuhl und anderen Gerätschaften. Dabei setzt er das ungrundierte, ockerfarbene Papier als Grundton ein, auf den er mit raschem, sicheren Strich Lichter und Schatten setzt, ein Kunstgriff, der der Darstellung Lebendigkeit und Tiefe verschafft.
Das Pastell wird von Antoine Salomon und Guy Cogeval in das in Vorbereitung befindliche Werkverzeichnis aufgenommen (unterstützt vom Wildenstein Institut, Paris). Mit einer Fotoexpertise von Antoine Salomon vom 8.2.2005. – Mit leichten Gebrauchsspuren.
