The landscape of Champigny-sur-Marne inspired the artist to one of its most famous landscapes – “The riverbanks of the Marne” in 1864/65. Like the painting this work presents the river in its whole breadth and majesty. With the expertise of Joachim Pissarro, New York (08.11.2007). The work will be included in the forthcoming catalogue raisonné.
Description
Die Landschaft in Champigny-sur-Marne bot dem Künstler vielfach Anregung. Inspiriert durch die Schule von Barbizon entstand 1864/65 eines seiner bedeutendsten Landschaftsgemälde, das die “Ufer der Marne bei Chennevières” zeigt. Vergleichbar zu dem Gemälde präsentiert sich auch bei vorliegendem Werk der Fluss in seiner ganzen Breite und Dominanz dem Auge des Betrachters. Die Topographie der Hügelkette am Ufer ist mit leichter Hand nur leicht angedeutet, wodurch der Charakter der Landschaft impressionistisch wiedergegeben ist. Mit Bleistift eingefasst. Leicht unfrisch, sonst in guter Erhaltung.
Mit einer Expertise von Herrn Joachim Pissarro, New York, vom 8. November 2007. Das Aquarell wird in den in Vorbereitung befindlichen Catalogue raisonné der Arbeiten auf Papier aufgenommen.
