The monk paintings of the Munich genre painter with their subject of merrily drinking old men were already extremely popular during the artist’s lifetime. The anecdotal, humoristic scenes are based on a strong naturalism of style.

Die Mönchsbilder des Münchner Genremalers mit ihren feucht-fröhlichen Motiven der trinkenden alten Herren erfreuten sich schon zu Grützners Lebzeiten einer großen Beliebtheit. Seine anekdotischen und humorvollen Szenen leben von ihrem starken Naturalismus. Der Charakter der drei Karten spielenden alten Männer wird von Grützner ausdrucksstark und detailgetreu herausgearbeitet. Mit kleinen Retuschen im Randbereich, sonst in hervorragendem Originalzustand.
