Brandeis, trained in Prague and Venice, where she lived from 1869 until the end of her life, created fresh and delicate renderings of Italian landmarks that were highly popular with foreign visitors and have lost nothing of their charme today.
Description
Die Künstlerin studierte zunächst bei Karel Javurek in Prag, ab 1869 dann an der Akademie in Venedig. Dort blieb sie ansässig und machte sich bald mit ihren kleinformatigen italienischen Veduten einen Namen, die als Erinnerungsstücke besonders bei Reisenden aus dem Ausland heiß begehrt waren. Mit feinem Pinsel und sensiblem Gespür für Atmosphäre gelingt es ihr, die schon häufig dargestellten Sehenswürdigkeiten – hier die Piazza del Popolo, links mit dem Obelisk und rechts den Terrassen des Pincio – frisch und lebendig wiederzugeben. Sehr gut erhalten.
