Description
Aus dem Zyklus “Above the Atmosphere”, in dem sich der Maler mit dem veränderten Blick auf die Welt von einer zukünftigen Raumstation aus beschäftigt (vgl. Ausstellungskatalog: Kurt Delbanco. Amos Eno Gallery, New York 2001, S. 12-17). Der Hamburger Künstler kam 1931 erstmals nach New York, wo er Malunterricht nahm und neben anderen mit Alfred Stieglitz Bekanntschaft schloss. 1936 emigrierte er zunächst nach London und 1948 nach New York, wo er seitdem lebt und arbeitet. Ausgehend von gegenständlicher Portraitmalerei (vgl. ‘Bildnis Robert Moses’, 1978, Museum of the City of New York) sind Delbancos neuere Werke Variationen über “schwerelose Abstraktion” (Artist Statement, in: Ausstellungskatalog: Kurt Delbanco. Amos Eno Gallery, New York 2000, S. 5). In sehr gutem Zustand.
