Pidder Auberger

Johann Peter (known as Pidder) Auberger was born in 1946 in Dinslaken-Lohberg, and died in 2012 in Burbach. He was a German artist, whose work ranged from painting, printmaking and photography. Auberger got recognized for his experiments in these media, such as the cliché-verre – a fusion of painting, drawing and etching with photography – as one of his leading techniques. In the 70s, Auberger studied photography and printmaking at the Academy of Fine Arts in Düsseldorf. Shortly after his graduation, Auberger began exhibit. Several group shows, including venues such as the Westfälischer Kunstverein in Münster (1977), Galerie Marzona (1979) and Kunsthalle in Düsseldorf (1980), were followed by the invitation to the Paris Biennial (1981), and then by numerous exhibitions and wider art world recognition. Appreciated as a printmaker and photographer, Auberger’s works are in various collections, including institutions such as the Folkwang Museum in Essen, Museum Abteiberg in Mönchengladbach, Artothek in Nuremberg. Recently, his photographs, together with works of Cécile Bauer, were shown at the Düsseldorf Photo Weekend (2015).
