Hans-Peter Adamski

1947 Kloster Oesede

Hans-Peter Adamski is a German painter who has recently also worked in the fields of video, photography and installation. After studying at the Düsseldorf Art Academy, he travelled to Afghanistan, Indonesia and India (1974-1979). In the early 1970s he worked with the Cologne artists’ group Depot. A decade later, together with Jiri Georg Dokoupil, Walter Dahn and Peter Bömmels, he is an important member of another movement, Mülheimer Freiheit. “Squares of Desire” (2008) is one of his most recent series, which refers to Kazimir Malevich’s “Black Square”, reflecting on the 100 years of art history after the famous painting. Adamski’s works are frequently exhibited and represented internationally by galleries such as Galerie Paul Maenz in Cologne, Sonnabend Gallery in New York, the Kunstmuseum in Basel and Bern and others. He has been a professor at the Hochschule für Bildende Künste Dresden since 1997 and currently lives and works in Berlin and Dresden.
