This study has a direct connection with the portrait of Friedrich Christoph Graf von Hohenzollern (cf. Weidinger 30, Natter 28), one of the five life-size portraits that the young Klimt painted of the ancestors of King Carol I in 1883 for the interior of Pelesch Castle (now in the National Museum of Sinaia, Romania).
