Forest landscape (Fontainebleau). Oil on canvas. 1878. C. 75 : 63 cm. Signed and dated lower right. A fresh and spontaneous rendering of the subtle light and warm earth colours pervading between the stems of the large trees, painted probably in the forest of Fontainebleau. It was executed during the artist’s stay in Paris in the year when he won the Salon’s gold medal for his painting “Milton”.
Descrizione
Gründete sich Munkácsys Erfolg bei seinen Zeitgenossen vor allem auf seine effektvollen Genreszenen, wurde er später eher für seine Landschaften und Stillleben geschätzt. Das “Waldinnere” entstand während der Pariser Zeit, genau in dem Jahr, als er mit dem Historienbild “Milton” die goldene Medaille des Salons erhielt. Vermutlich im Wald von Fontainebleau entstanden, fängt es meisterlich in frischem, spontanem Duktus das warme Licht und die subtilen erdigen Töne der Umgebung ein. Mit kleineren Retuschen und kleinen Bereibungen im Rahmenbereich. Doubliert und gefirnisst.
