Descrizione
Excellent, black and contrasting impression. The rocky landscape in the background sharply and clearly drawn, before the light smudge marks on the chest of the sea wonder and before the scratch in the drapery end of the maiden. Trimmed within the platemark. – The bearded man with jagged antlers on his forehead, armed with a turtle shell, half man, half fish, contrasts effectively with the even beauty of his prey, which he holds by the left upper arm. The body of the exposed young woman is draped in a flowing shawl; she wears an embroidered diadem and a pearl ribbon in her hair as a sign of her high origin. Seemingly unimpressed by the power exerted on her by the mythical creature, she allows herself to be carried out to sea. – Paper with brown stains and a smoothed vertical and horizontal fold mark. With numerous restorations, some of which have been covered over. Some of the borderlines carefully redrawn. The upper left corner set in. Paper thinning on the reverse at the lower left edge. Remains and traces of a former mounting on the verso, otherwise in good condition in keeping with its age.
