Instructions for online only auctions

Karl & Faber offers real-time online auctions in co-operation with four different platforms. They take place exclusively on the Internet and not in the auction room. Real-time online auctions are so-called timed auctions that run for a fixed period of time. Bids can be placed for a lot during this 14-day period. Our auction conditions provide consumers with a two-week right of return. This makes our real-time online auctions a risk-free and convenient addition to live auctions.

Please note:
Viewing the respective catalogue and registering to bid is only possible from the start of the respective auction.

Step 1: Browse the catalogue

The catalogue for our Real-time-online-auction can be viewed on our website under “Buy” in the “Real-time-online-auctions” section under “Online Catalogue”. However, the catalogue will only be published at the start of the auction.

You can also view the catalogue on the Drouot, Invaluable and Lot-tissimo platforms and place bids there.

Step 2: Register

Register
If you do not yet have an account with one of the four platforms, Drouot, Invaluable, Lot-tissimo or MYKarl & Faber, open a customer account there in good time. We recommend that you register at least 24 hours before the end of the real-time-online-only auction.
If you already have an account on one of these portals, for example because you also participate in our live auctions, you can also use it for our real-time-online-only auction.

Activation
After your data has been checked, you will receive a confirmation from the respective platform to the e-mail address you have provided. It contains a link with which you can activate your account. Please note that this e-mail may be recognised as spam by your filter and moved to your spam folder.

Activation can take some time on all platforms. We therefore recommend that you endeavour to register early enough.

As soon as you have created a user account, you can click on “Register” or “Login” and enter your login details.

Step 3: Admission to bid

When the auction starts, you can view the entire catalogue of our real-time-online-only auction, including lot details and photos. You can log out of your account and log back in at any time during the auction. However, in order to be able to bid in the auction, you must also register as a bidder in the catalogue of the respective auction.

If you want to bid via MYKarl & Faber, click on the orange button “Register to bid” in the catalogue of the respective auction. If you have already purchased a work of art from Karl & Faber, you will be quickly activated for online bidding.
If you are a new customer, we will need from you

  • a copy of your photo ID
  • Proof of your address

Once we have received your documents, we will authorise you to bid in our real-time-online-only auction.

Step 4: Bidding

Bids
As soon as the auction has been activated and you have registered for the respective catalogue, you can place your bids. Enter your maximum bid for each of your desired lots here – i.e. the maximum price you would like to pay for this lot. If another bidder outbids you, your bid will automatically be increased by one bidding increment until your maximum bid is reached.

In Karl & Faber auctions, bidding increments are specified, which you can find in the drop-down menu on the respective lot page.

Monitor lots and bids
To ensure that you are the highest bidder, you should monitor your lot regularly. If you have been outbid by another bidder, a notification will be sent to your registered e-mail address. You will find information on how to increase your bid and a link to your lot.

You can also check your bids in your customer profile on the respective platform.

End of the real-time online auction
Bids are knocked down live by our auctioneers and the real-time-online-only auction is broadcast live on the Internet on all platforms. Each lot will be called and knocked down in order.

Your purchase at Karl & Faber
As soon as you win a lot, you will also receive a notification by e-mail. You can then use your account to view all the information about the winning lot.

Step 5: Payment and right of revocation:

Payment
You will receive an invoice for the lots awarded to you within 48 hours of the end of the auction. This invoice will contain all information regarding costs, payment and dispatch. Payment is only possible by bank transfer.

Right of cancellation
You can cancel the purchase contract within two weeks or return the goods without giving reasons. The cancellation period begins on the day on which you or a third party nominated by you take delivery of the goods from the carrier.
If you wish to exercise your right of cancellation, you must inform Karl & Faber by means of a declaration. This can be done by letter sent by post, fax, e-mail or by filling in the online form. In accordance with our right of cancellation, you must then bear the costs of returning the goods.
