Description
Spitzweg is known for the satirical exaggeration of his character types, which often take on grotesque traits. In this study sheet, he brings together no fewer than twelve very different, sometimes humorous characters: a cannibal with a shrunken head, a dancer in a ballet tutu, a mischievously grinning priest with an overlong pipe and other bizarre characters. – Faint light-staining in the former mount and with a few barely noticeable stains. A small tear above the pot-bellied figure upper left. In good condition.
