Rocky coast in Capri
Description
Oswald Achenbach prägte wie kein anderer das Italienbild seiner Generation. Im Juni 1856 unternahm er seine dritte Italienreise, dieses Mal in Begleitung seiner Malerkollegen Jost Meyer, genannt “Meyer am Rhyn”, seinem Schwager Albert Arnz und John Beaufain Irving. Im August erreichte Oswald Neapel, von wo aus er nach Capri übersetzte, jene Insel, die seit Bekanntwerden der Blauen Grotte die Grand-Tour-Reisenden wie Sirenengesang anlockte. Hier zeigt Oswald einen Abschnitt an der Küste, wobei die Felsen einen “Arco Naturale” formen. Das azurblaue Wasser strömt vom offenen Meer in ein seichteres Becken ein, das vor der Brandung geschützt ist und zum Baden einlädt.
