Description
Mit großzügigem Duktus und der für seine späten Arbeiten typischen Verwendung dunkler, satter Farben erfasst der Künstler die ländlichen Szenen. Inspiriert von der holländischen Landschaftsmalerei des 17. Jahrhunderts, fand Georges Michel seine Motive in der ländlichen Umgebung von Paris. Nach seinem Tod geriet sein Werk zunächst in Vergessenheit; erst im 20. Jahrhundert wurde seine Bedeutung als Vorläufer der Schule von Barbizon gewürdigt.
