Description
Kopie nach dem großformatigen, 1882 datierten Original im Musée d’Orsay, Paris (Inv.-Nr. RF 333), mit welchem der von van Gogh hochgeschätzte Lhermitte weite Berühmtheit erlangte. Er wurde zum Chronisten des einfachen, bäuerlichen Lebens in seinem Heimat-Département Aisne. Besonders der abwesend stierende Schnitter zur Linken veranschaulicht die Erschöpfung am Ende eines langen Tages der Feldarbeit.
