Description
Harper setzte ab 1752 in Rom bei Richard Wilson seine künstlerische Ausbildung fort und stand in engem Austausch mit Winckelmann. Danach trat er in den Dienst von Herzog Carl Eugen von Württemberg, dessen Hofmaler er 1759 wurde. 1761 wurde er zum Professor an der später mit der Hohen Carlsschule vereinigten Académie des Arts ernannt. Der größte Teil seines Œuvres befindet sich in württembergischen Schlössern.
