Description
Seit den wiederholten Eruptionen des Vesuvs ab dem Jahr 1631 zog dieser zahlreiche Reisende aus ganz Europa an, die sich auf ihrer ‘Grand Tour’ einen Eindruck von diesem Naturschauspiel verschaffen wollten. Gemälde des Künstlers befinden sich heute in zahlreichen Museen, darunter zwei voll ausgeführte, großformatige Darstellungen des gleichen Sujets im Musée des Beaux-Arts in Nantes und im Museo di Capodimonte in Neapel.
