Description
Auf den Grands Boulevards vor der Porte Saint-Martin herrscht ein rastloses Treiben. Dicht and dicht drängen die Passanten in alle Richtungen, weichen Pferdekutschen aus, lassen sich die Stiefel bürsten oder werden vom aufklarenden Himmel zum Blumenkauf verleitet. Von links ragen die massiven Kalksteinquader der Porte Saint-Martin ins Bildgeschehen. Diese war 1674 in Form eines antiken Triumphbogens zum Gedenken an die Siege in der Franche-Comté während des Holländischen Krieges errichtet worden und prägt seitdem das Stadtbild.
