Laut Auskunft des Besitzers soll Frau Czernitz dargestellt sein, die Gattin des Grazer Opernhausdirektors Ignaz Czernitz, der am 28. März 1864 das Thalia-Theater in Graz eröffnet hatte. Moser hatte 1857 Frau Czernitz in der Rolle der Schwäbin in Berthold Auerbachs “Die Frau Professorin” dargestellt, doch bleibt für unser Gemälde die Identifizierung unsicher.
