Description
Cornelis Mahu war ein flämischer Künstler, der für seine Stillleben unter dem Einfluss des holländischen Malers Willem Claesz. Heda und seines Umkreises stand. Eine Zeitlang arbeitete Mahu sogar in Hedas Werkstatt in Haarlem. Unser Bild, eine Genreszene, ist eines von verschiedenen Versionen derselben Komposition, die Cornelis Mahu anfertigte. Der Darstellung liegt ein Vorbild von Pieter de Bloot (um 1601-1658) aus Rotterdam zugrunde, das sich 1962 bei dem Kunsthändler J. Gans, Nizza, befand.
