Description
Das vorliegende Aquarell des Lago d’Averno in der Nähe von Neapel wurde in der für Selleny charakteristischen linearen und objektiven Technik spontan und “en plein air” ausgeführt. Der See und die ihn umgebenden Hügel mit der in der Ferne erkennbaren Insel Capri und dem Vesuv sind im Kontrast zum summarisch angedeuteten Vordergrund und Himmel in beträchtlicher Detailschärfe eingefangen. Wahrscheinlich diente das Blatt als Gedächtnisstütze dieser berühmten Stätte, die vielleicht zu einem späteren Zeitpunkt in einem Gemälde weiterentwickelt werden sollte. – In den oberen Ecken mit leichnten Knickspuren, winzige Braunfleckchen. Die rechte obere Ecke angesetzt, ansonsten in gutem Zustand.
