Description
Oswald Achenbach prägte wie kein anderer das Italienbild seiner Generation. Seit den 1840er Jahren hielt er sich wiederholt in Italien auf und ließ sich durch die dort empfangenen Eindrücke zu seinen überwältigenden Inszenierungen inspirieren. Überwältigend vor allem in der atmosphärisch dichten Lichtführung und malerischen Brillanz, mit der Achenbach das Erbe der Romantik überwindet und den Deutschrömern Böcklin und Feuerbach den Weg ebnet.
