Description

Stauffer-Berns Interesse für die Porträtkunst war auf seine Berliner Jahre beschränkt, wo er von 1880 bis 1887 lebte. Aus Anlass von Menzels 70. Geburtstag im Dezember 1885 entstand Stauffer-Berns Radierung; Anfang November saß Menzel in seinem Atelier erstmals Modell und am 11. November entstand zwischen 11 und 1 Uhr mittags die unmittelbare, gegenseitige Vorlage, was Stauffer-Bern auf der Zeichnung genau vermerkt hat (heute Washington, National Gallery). – Mit kleinen Randmängeln, an der linken Kante mit einem alten Papierstückchen, sonst gut erhalten.
