Nicht nur das Meer, sondern auch die Berge, faszinieren Erich Heckel. Von etwa 1954 an reist er im Sommer regelmäßig ins Oberengadin. Laut Andreas Hüneke hält der Maler hier den Blick über den Silsersee fest. Heckel beschäftigt sich nicht nur auf Leinwand mit diesen Sujets, sondern setzt sich auch auf Papier mit der Bergwelt auseinander. In unmittelbaren Zusammenhang mit dem vorliegendem Gemälde entstehen laut Werkverzeichnis die Aquarelle “Bildskizze I”, “Bildskizze II” und “Fex Güvé”.
Auch in der Graphik setzt der Künstler seine Eindrücke des Silser Sees mit Blick nach Maloja, nahe dem beliebten Kurort St. Moritz, in der Lithographie “Gebirgssee” von 1962/63 um (Dube L 371).
