Der Künstler, von dem nur die Initialen seines Namens bekannt sind, orientierte sich am Werk von Jan Davidsz. van Heem, zeigt sich aber auch von den Stilleben des Willem Claesz. Heda und Floris van Schooten beeinflusst. Daher ist es wahrscheinlicher, dass er holländischer und nicht flämischer Abkunft war. Werke von seiner Hand sind selten. Ein vergleichbares Stillleben befindet sich im Gemeentemuseum Weesp (Inv. Nr. 533).
