Mit wenigen Pinselstrichen schafft Wopfner ein abgestuftes Ensemble von Himmel, Wolken und Wasser. 1872 wurde der Chiemsee zum Hauptmotiv des Künstlers und er verbrachte die Sommermonate regelmäßig auf Frauenwörth, um zu malen. Neben Darstellungen der Chiemseelandschaft war auch die dortige Landbevölkerung ein beliebtes Motiv des Künstlers. Das zarte Kolorit und der pastose Farbauftrag weisen Wopfner als Verehrer der Schule von Barbizon aus. Besonders Camille Corots “Paysages intimes” dürften ihm als Inspiration gedient haben.
