Description
Johann Wolfgang Baumgartner hat das Thema mehrfach behandelt (vgl. u.a. die Fassung im Blanton Museum of Art, Texas, Inv. Nr. 32.1999). Unser Bozzetto kommt dem querformatigen Gemälde “Sturm auf dem Meere” im Zeppelinmuseum Friedrichshafen am nächsten, das in szenisch erweiterter Form und in spiegelbildlicher Anordnung die dramatische Begebenheit schildert. Jenes Bild ist wohl als Pendant zur “Berufung Petri” der Augsburger Kunstsammlungen anzusehen (Straßer 2009, S. 11).
Die Bestimmung erfolgte durch Dr. Bruno Bushart , Augsburg (Brief vom 17.12.1954); zuvor war der Bozzetto Johann Evangelist Holzer zugeschrieben.
