Description
Wie überall in Europa suchte man während der Nachkriegsjahre auch in Italien nach neuen, radikalen Ausdrucksformen in der Kunst: Giuseppe Capogrossi gründete 1950 zusammen mit den Malern Alberto Burri und Mario Balloco sowie dem Bildhauer Ettore Colla in Rom die Künstlergruppe “Origine”, die sich ganz der Abstraktion verschrieb. Capogrossi befand sich zu dieser Zeit auf dem Höhepunkt seines Schaffens – er war sowohl Teilnehmer der Documenta I 1955, als auch der Documenta II 1959 – und entwickelte damals seine reduziert zeichenhafte Bildsprache: ovale, grafische Bildzeichen, die entfernt an Höhlenmalerei, archaische Schriftzeichen oder Graffiti erinnern, werden zu stilprägenden Elementen in der Kunst Capogrossis.
