Description
Die Darstellung wiederholt den zentralen Teil von Marattas Fresko mit der Geburt Christi (Anbetung der Hirten) in der Galleria di Alessandro VII des Quirinalpalastes in Rom, das er 1657 fertig stellte. Zwei Jahre später malte Maratta eine kleinere Version dieses Ausschnitts im Rund (ehemals in der römischen Sammlung von Sigismondo Chigi), die viele Künstler anregte und auch Vorbild für unser Bild war.
