Wie sein Lehrer Julius Lange fand auch der gebürtige Münchner Ferdinand Feldhütter seine Motive in der Gebirgswelt der Alpen in Bayern, der Schweiz und in Tirol. Aus Tirol stammt auch die dramatische Darstellung unseres Wasserfalls, zu dem ein 2004 versteigerter “Wasserfall bei Bad Gastein” (Michael Zeller, Lindau, 6.5.2004, Los 656) das formatgleiche Gegenstück bildete. In dem pastosen Farbauftrag und der effektvollen Lichtdramatik verrät Feldhütter die Kenntnis von Carl Spitzwegs Landschaftsmalerei und der seines Kreises.
