Description
Zu vorliegendem Kabinettbild existiert eine großformatige Ausführung auf Leinwand, die zusammen mit dem Gegenstück (Apoll und Pan) beim Dorotheum, Wien, am 7.4.2006, Los 53, versteigert wurde. Thieme/Becker, Bd. 33, S. 389-390 erwähnt, dass die beiden Gegenstücke laut Pascoli für den Marchese Torri gemalt wurden. Zu der Darstellung des Apoll und Marsyas hat sich auch die Kreidevorzeichnung erhalten. Sie wurde bei Weinmüller, München, Auktion XXIV, 20./21. 5. 1941, Los 763 (als S. Rosa) versteigert. Unterschiede sind hier vor allem in der Armhaltung des jungen Pan und in den Hintergrundfiguren zu konstatieren.
